August Tribal Council meeting: budget, road repair, language funding

Council approved the FY2027 general fund budget, awarded the Council Loop resurfacing contract, and voted to double the language program's instructor budget.

Posted August 11, 2026

The Tribal Council met in regular session on Monday, August 10, at the Administration Building. Six of seven members were present. Full minutes will be posted to the Documents page within ten business days, as required by Council policy.

Actions taken

FY2027 general fund budget, approved 6 to 0. The budget holds general operations flat while moving $340,000 from the unallocated reserve into deferred building maintenance, chiefly roofs on the Elder Center and the old Tribal office.

Council Loop resurfacing, awarded. The contract for 3.1 miles of resurfacing was awarded to the lowest responsive bidder. Work is expected to begin after the Wacipi and to take about five weeks. Expect flagged one-lane traffic on weekday mornings.

Language instructor positions, approved 5 to 1. Council voted to fund two additional full-time language instructor positions beginning in the spring term, effectively doubling the program’s teaching capacity. The dissenting member asked that the record reflect a concern about recurring costs after the current grant period ends in 2029.

Enrollment ordinance amendment, tabled. Discussion was tabled to the September meeting to allow the Enrollment Committee time to bring forward written recommendations.

Next meeting

The next regular Council meeting is Monday, September 14 at 9:00 am in Council Chambers. Meetings are open to enrolled members. Anyone wishing to address Council should contact the Secretary’s office by the Thursday before to be placed on the agenda.
