Thirty-one young people between the ages of 14 and 21 completed the summer work program this week. Crews worked at fourteen sites across the Nation: the Elder Center kitchen, the Wildlife Department, Facilities, the clinic front desk, the Head Start playground rebuild, and the powwow grounds ahead of Wacipi.
Seven participants received offers of continuing part-time work during the school year. Four are entering the Nation’s apprenticeship track in facilities and utilities.
Every participant finished with a completed application, a résumé, a bank account, and their own copy of their birth certificate and enrollment card - which the program coordinator points out is often the harder accomplishment.
Applications for next summer open in March. Families are encouraged not to wait until May; the program filled all thirty-one slots in nine days this year.
